History: Glenturret is Scotland's oldest single malt distillery. It was established in 1775 to take advantage of the pristine waters of The Turret Burn. Hit hard by Prohibition, the distillery closed in 1921 and would lay in a state of disrepair for over 35 years.
Today: In 1957, James Fairlie rescued the dilapidated facility, and, by 1960, whisky production had recommenced. After a number of ownership changes and expansions, Glenturet has steadlily become one of the premier producers of Scotch. The distillery produces its excellent Glenturret line of single malts in small quantities using tradtional production methods. But, it is best known for making The Famous Grouse family of blended malts.
